Summer Public Interest/Public Sector Law Fellowships
Each year, the Ecology Law Quarterly (ELQ) and CLEE award summer fellowships to Berkeley Law students who plan to work with a public interest organization or in the public sector. The fellowships are available to rising third year law students and are open to all students regardless of ELQ membership.
Past fellowships have funded placements at leading environmental advocacy groups and government agencies such as Earthjustice, the Natural Resources Defense Council, the U.S. Department of Justice’s Environment & Natural Resources Division, and the Center for Biological Diversity.
Writing Awards
ELQ administers three annual writing prizes (number of prizes subject to change) which are presented each year at the ELQ Banquet. These awards are made possible through the generous sponsorship of our partner law firms, alumni, and current and emeritus faculty. Although managed by ELQ, the prizes are open to all Berkeley Law students.
The Orrick Energy and Infrastructure Writing Prize
This prize recognizes one paper of outstanding merit that explores one or more of the field’s core pillars: energy, infrastructure, technology, and finance. In addition to the prize of $2,500, the winning paper may, at the firm’s discretion, be featured on Orrick’s professional platforms.
The Berkeley Energy Resources Collaborative (BERC) and Ecology Law Quarterly (ELQ) Energy & Climate Prize
The BERC and ELQ Energy & Climate prize recognizes one paper of outstanding merit addressing the legal issues of energy and climate change law. The award is open to any Berkeley Law student. The prize is supported by Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati. In addition to the award recognition and prize, the winning paper may, at the firm’s discretion, be posted on WSGR’s website.
Ellis J. Harmon Prize in Environmental Law & Policy
The prize is awarded to the most accomplished student research paper on a topic in environmental law and policy. The winner will be considered for publication in ELQ and will be recognized at graduation.
