About Nell
Dr. Nell Green Nylen is a Senior Research Fellow with the Wheeler Water Institute at CLEE. Dr. Green Nylen’s work focuses on adapting water management institutions to meet critical needs and build resilience for people and ecosystems. Her current areas of research include: innovative water and wastewater management, improving regulatory relationships and processes around innovative projects designed to meet multiple community needs, modernizing water rights implementation and oversight in California, sustainable groundwater management, and improving the information base for water decision making.
Nell is a member of the California Wastewater Needs Assessment Advisory Group, advises the Executive Committee of the California Lawyers Association’s Environmental Law Section, and serves on the board of directors for the California Water Law Symposium.
Before joining CLEE, Nell clerked for Justice Gregory J. Hobbs of the Colorado Supreme Court. As a law student, she interned with the California Attorney General’s Office and the Center for Biological Diversity and was an articles editor for Ecology Law Quarterly, among other things. Before law school and between her B.S. and Ph.D. programs, Nell did science research and GIS/graphics work at the California Academy of Sciences, Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History, Stanford University Maps & Records, and U.S. Geological Survey. Her Ph.D. research examined past climatic and environmental change along the Northern California coast.
