Wildfire is a naturally occurring phenomenon throughout the western US, but decades of suppression, withdrawal from indigenous forest management practices, development in the wildland-urban interface, and increasingly hot and dry conditions due to climate change mean massive wildfires now pose a threat to ecosystems, communities, and local economies. Wildfire and wildfire risk touch everything from property insurance to electricity bills, agriculture to recreation, and air quality to long-term climate targets. CLEE’s work focuses on assessing wildfire impacts and promoting sustainable policies and practices across all affected sectors.
The centerpiece of CLEE’s wildfire work is its leadership and support of the Climate and Wildfire Institute, an independent nonprofit.
