Land use is central to the most significant environmental and climate challenges we face, guiding where we develop communities, how far we travel to access resources, which natural and working lands we protect, and what populations face climate-related risks.
CLEE’s team has deep expertise in the legal and policy structures shaping the intersection of land use and the environment, from climate-smart housing development and the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) to innovative banking and trading mechanisms to address vehicle miles traveled (VMT) and open space preservation. Our work seeks to cultivate land use policy as a mechanism to facilitate climate progress rather than hinder it.
