Housing as a Climate Solution

CLEE’s work explores policies and practices that can boost needed housing production in climate-friendly locations, such as near transit, in walkable and bikeable neighborhoods, and in areas of low daily miles driven per capita. In addition, these include areas that are generally safe from climate risks, such as wildfire, sea level rise, flooding, and extreme heat, where feasible. The research also incorporates policies and options to ensure any new development does not displace low-income renters.

Ultimately, housing and the neighborhoods and transportation systems that support this production represent one of the most impactful and cost-effective means of both reducing fossil fuel emissions and protecting residents from the impacts of climate change.
