About the Initiative

Achieving climate goals will require more than smart policy and effective laws; it will require significant revenue to fund investments in clean energy, transportation, resilience, and other vital infrastructure. Local governments—the home of ambitious climate action plans around the country—will need to develop sustained revenue streams to meet their targets while serving community needs.

CLEE’s work on funding climate action is dedicated to crafting innovative local funding and financing approaches, from climate bonds to targeted taxes, that can combine with other public and private investments to fund climate plan implementation with an emphasis on diversification, practicality, and equity.
